Current Flagship Project

Safeguarding Women’s Rights & Accelerating Gender Equality in Moyale Sub-County

Full title: Lobby and advocacy that promote community best practices for safeguarding women’s rights and accelerating the achievement of gender equality for women and girls of Moyale Sub-County.

Donor: Embassy of Sweden, through the Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW).

Locations: Golbo and Butiye Wards, Moyale Sub-County, Marsabit County.

Period: September 2025 – August 2026.

Women and girls in Moyale Sub-County continue to face gender-based violence, FGM, early marriage and exclusion from the decisions that shape their lives. This project confronts those barriers head-on, combining rights training, economic empowerment, civic education and advocacy so that women and girls in Golbo and Butiye Wards can claim their rights, build independent livelihoods, and take their place in public decision-making.

Inception & Stakeholder Engagement. An inception meeting with key stakeholders introduces the project and aligns partners on training women and girls on gender-based violence, harmful traditional practices and related capacity-building initiatives.

Capacity Building. Women and girls are trained on GBV, FGM, early marriage and economic empowerment; equipped to participate in and influence public participation and resource-allocation forums; supported to attend those forums and have their voices heard; and engaged through peer-to-peer training on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Economic Empowerment. Groups receive village savings and loaning training and business start-up kits, strengthening their saving culture and enabling members to provide soft loans to one another, with linkages to financial institutions for gender-financing programmes.

Institutional & Community Engagement. Civic education outreach at locational level, including community-based drama performances by local content creators, sensitizes entire communities on the effects of retrogressive practices such as FGM, early marriage, and the mistreatment of girls who conceive outside marriage.

Review, Monitoring & Evaluation. Structured review meetings among project staff and continuous monitoring and evaluation track progress against budgets and planned activities.
