A women-led, youth-driven organization born from conflict, and built for peace.

Our Story Begins Where Two Communities Meet.

The Peace and Prosperity Initiative (PPI) is a women-led, youth-driven community-based organization legally registered in Kenya and operating in Moyale Sub-County, Marsabit County, along the Kenya–Ethiopia border. PPI is rooted in the story of its founder, a woman born of two clashing communities, who grew up witnessing hostility, exclusion and the painful consequences of inter-ethnic conflict. Having faced adversity first-hand, she understood from an early age the urgent need to bridge divisions, empower women and young people, and build peace from the ground up. In 2021, her personal journey of resilience and reconciliation inspired her to bring together professional youths from diverse ethnic backgrounds. United under her vision, they dared to dream of a different future for Northern Kenya, one rooted in peace, inclusion and sustainable development. That founding story remains the heartbeat of PPI's mission today. Since its establishment, PPI has worked tirelessly to create spaces where women and youth, groups too often marginalized in decision-making, take active leadership in shaping peace, dignity and prosperity in their communities. We believe sustainable development and lasting peace can only be realized when women and young people are included as central actors in both peacebuilding and livelihood enhancement.

“Lasting peace is only possible when women and young people stand at the centre of it.”

How We Work

Community-rooted
Our staff and volunteers come from the communities we serve, across ethnic lines. Interventions are designed with communities, not for them.
Women and youth at the centre
Every programme deliberately positions women and young people as leaders, decision-makers and change agents.
The peace–development nexus
We link peacebuilding with livelihoods, education and environmental stewardship, because prosperity sustains peace, and peace enables prosperity.
Partnership-driven
We work hand-in-hand with local administration, elders, religious leaders, schools, county structures, and national and international partners.
Accountable and transparent
We maintain sound financial management, structured monitoring and evaluation, and open reporting to communities and donors alike.
